• Wholesale inflation has now reached 9.87 percent—its highest level in 44 months.
• Retail inflation has risen to 4.4 percent—its highest level in 18 months. Food inflation stands at 5.49 percent.
• The burden of fuel and electricity costs has surged to a staggering 27%; households are struggling to keep their kitchens running, yet the Modi government remains indifferent.
• On one hand, there is the crushing impact of inflation; on the other, the country is facing its weakest monsoon in 12 years. Sowing has dropped by 52%—less than half of normal levels. Farmers in Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh have been devastated by drought, while floods have wreaked havoc in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, West Bengal, and Uttarakhand. Essential inputs for farmers—fuel, fertilizers, and seeds—have all become costlier.
